Ironman Announces Launch of Ironman University

Monique Ryan, MS, RDN, LDN, CSSD is a Subject Matter Expert for Ironman™ University and the Upcoming Ironman™ Coaching Certification!

Endurance athletes and coaches, please check out the Ironman™ website to learn more about the recent launch of Ironman™ University. Ironman™ University is a new and innovative on-line education and certification platform that will offer instruction for coaches and endurance athletes of varying skills and abilities. Some exciting features of this new program include a coaching certification specific to long-distance training and racing, coach matching, and a coach’s forum.

The Coaching Certification includes 11 modules ranging in topics from Ironman™ history to the art of coaching and of course sports nutrition.
This program was also designed to incorporate the science behind endurance training. In addition to having coaches understand “what” type of workout an athlete should complete, this certification training also provides the “why.” Allied health professionals interested in completing a coaching certification will appreciate the science and the application of this comprehensive program.

I had the pleasure as serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the sports nutrition module. As many experienced 70.3 and 140.6 competitors are aware, nutrition can make or break your long distance race. Learning the core principles of training nutrition is in integral part of the platform for high quality training, and allows the endurance athlete to personalize their race nutrition plan and refine this plan in preparation for race day.
